Registration for Otakon 2009’s Artist Alley is now open!

By: Matt Balaban

Registration for Otakon 2009’s Artist Alley is now open! The form to request tables can be found here. Please note that submitting a registration form is a request for tables. Tables are assigned in the order that requests are received, until the Alley is full; so submitting a request does not guarantee that you will receive the tables. There will be a waiting list for the artists who are not able to get their tables on the first round, however.

Tables will sell for $70

Because there have been questions about the details of the registration process, here are all of the steps:

  1. You will submit a registration form, found at the link above, giving your contact information and the number of tables that you’d like to have for Otakon 2009.

  2. The department head of the Alley will contact you via email to let you know if there is space for you in the Alley. If there is, that email will also include information on your payment due, how to pay and the current contract. In addition, the packet will include the exhibitors affidavit. Please print and sign a copy of the contract and affidavit for each artist who will be selling at your table.

  3. Mail the contract, affidavit and payment back to the address provided in the email. Multiple contracts and affidavits may be included in the same envelope – in fact this is preferred so that it’s easier for us to keep all the information on the table together. The deadline for getting the paperwork and payment in is June 10th. Don’t be late, if you are then your tables will be released to people on the waiting list.

  4. Show up to Otakon! There will be instructions at the convention for how to pick up your artist ribbon. There will be some time Thursday night for check-in and set up, as well as on Friday morning.

  5. If you are not one of the lucky ones who is able to get their tables, you will be given the option to be placed on the waiting list. The tables are assigned in the order that the requests are received, and people will be placed on the waiting list in the same way. If you chose to take a space on the waiting list, you will be informed via email if and when there are tables available for you. Information about paperwork and payment will come in that same email.

  6. IMPORTANT: ANY TABLE WHICH HAS NOT BEEN CHECKED IN TO BY NOON ON SATURDAY WILL BE CONSIDERED A NO-SHOW. No-show tables will be available for sale at-con on a first come, first served basis for $80 per table. Details on these tables will be available after noon on Saturday.

  7. In addition, please be aware of the following major policy revisions for this year:

    1. Each artist who registers for tables is allowed a maximum of two tables.

    2. Artists who work together on projects will be, for the purposes of the Alley, considered a single artist. A studio which brings multiple artists and would like to ask for an exception to the two table rule may do so by emailing the Alley department head at artistalley09@otakon.org with the number of tables they want, the number of artists who will be attending and any other relevant information.

    3. No art with any copyrighted logos will be allowed this year.

Please refer to the policies posted at http://www.otakon.com/alleyrules.asp for a complete list of this year’s policies.

Any questions may be addressed to artistalley09@otakon.org.
